Issue
After upgrading to Metastorm BPM version 7 on Windows Server 2003 SP1, trying to open the System Administrator presents the user with the following Microsoft Management Console error message:
MMC cannot open the file C:\\Program Files\\Metastorm BPM\\Administrative Tools\\System Administrator\\eSysAdmin2003.msc.
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.
Resolution
This behavior is seen when the wrong version of Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is installed. Metastorm BPM version 7 requires MMC 3.0, whereas Windows 2003 SP1 uses MMC 2.0. The installed version can be verified by going to Start --> Run. Enter mmc.exe and click OK. After the console window has opened, go to Help --> About Microsoft Management Console...
Although MMC 3.0 can be downloaded from the Microsoft website, and will resolve this error, this is not a supported environment. As specified in the Metastorm BPM Version 7 Supported Environments document, the version 7 components are only supported on the following 2 operating systems:
Windows XP Professional SP2
Windows Server 2003 Release 2
Upgrading the OS from Windows Server 2003 SP1 to Windows Server 2003 Release 2 also upgrades MMC to 3.0.
