Revert to Previous Version

TS 6.5 sp2 on Windows. I am having slight problems with reversion operation. I had a Version 7, 7+ and old versions like Version 6, 5 down to 0. I was trying to revert to version 6, so all i do is check the file which i want a older version, click on File>versions, this is reveal all the version, i click rever on the Version 6. I click refresh and edi the html file. Here i am expecting the version 6 but still verion 7+ remains? where am i doing wrong? Please advice.

Hmm, no idea, I just tried it again in 6.7.1

Reverted back a few versions (just like you did) update time was modified to November (corresponding to the version I chose).

Do you have the permissions ? What role ?

I am logged in as a master, but it doesn't revert. I am assuming you clicked revert for a particular version, did you edit the html file and did you find the reverted verion there?

Please let me know the step you did soon after you hit revert and just before you hit edit?

I selected an unmodified file and viewed the history and reverted 5 versions back. I checked the timestamp of the version in the GUI and of the file generated. But I did not edit the file itself.

After you do the revert, what does TS say if you view properties ?

Properties will show the same properties with the very latest version number. For that matter if your currunt version is 7+ and you are reverting from version 5 it will say do you wish to revert version 7+ to version 5, if you hit yes it will, cuz one you hit on verion 7+ now it will show the as it is in version 5. Everything is fine till now..

The problem starts when you edit it. try editing it and you reverted changes are gone in you DCR.

Are you reverting a DCR or the generated page ? If you revert the generated page (but don't revert the DCR) then when you click edit you lost the revert.

Aahhh now i see where i was going wrong. No matter what you do, you cannot edit the reverted version. One has to manually copy that version of content into the DCR and work again? isn't there an easy way to get that reverted version directly into DCR for us to edit?

just revert the DCR instead of the generated page; once you revert DCR, whether you click edit on generate page or the DCR, it will open the right version.

yes that works. But most of our end users are used to edit html files. They don't understand what DCR is, all they care about is that they can revert an html file edit it and push it through. And they expect that when they revert html, corresponding DCR also gets reverted that would be nice.

It is same as this, if you have a html file locked, if you unlock it, corresponding dcr is also unlocked.

Similarly if html is reverted corresponding DCR should also be reverted. I guess this can be a good future request.

Good theory but that won't happen. Basic issue is that the generated pages do not know what version of the DCR was used to generate the page. IWOV would need to add the version information to the EAs on the generated page.

That being said, IMHO, reverting changes is typically an admin task. Sometimes there are no repercussions but other times there are. You know the system and you can tell what the impact of a revert would be.

thank you all. you are right andy. I am supposed to document this to all my endusers and ask them to revert only their DCR's rather than reverting html's cuz no matter what they will always edit.
