- What is a template file and how is it used?
Discussion
Definition
Template files (.pvt files) are used to associate a customized modeling language with a .pvw file. If no template file is in place, the default Enterprise Architecture (EA) modeling language is used.
Saving the Template File
- Open a notebook and activate the desired modeling language.
- From the menu bar click File --> Save As --> Template File.
- Choose the name and destination of the file.
- If you would like to set this as the default choose Yes when prompted.
Activating a previously saved .pvt file
- From the menu bar go to Tools --> Preferences (or press shift+F11).
- Click the File/Save tab.
- Under File Operation, check Use the following template for newly created .pvw files:.
- Click the ellipsis button (…) to select the previously saved template file.
- Click OK.
Note that any changes to the modeling language that should be included in the template file will require repeating the process.
