Externaltask won't jump to next task in workflow

I have a number of usertasks in my workflow. The third usertask (DeploytoStaging) jumps to an externaltask (Email). When this task is scheduled it shows up in the Active tasks section of the workflow with a status that says "This task does not require your interaction. " I thought it would jump to the next usertask (DeploytoProduction) as defined in this task. Here is a snippet of my workflow:

Likely the email task is failing (or not executing the callback).

Do you get the email ?

Has this worked before ?

You should turn on debugging int he script and see what it happening.

Also put a timeout, if that does not complete in 5 minutes it won't. You can go to an admin task or just straight to the next step.
