'Field Name Contains Illegal Characters' When Importing PDF External Form

Issue

• Attempting to import a PDF external form into the Designer generates the following error message:

  Failed to read the external form
  Cannot parse the PDF form
  Field name contains illegal characters.

Resolution

• Open the file with Adobe Acrobat and make sure there are no spaces in the names of any fields on the PDF form. Acrobat creates default names with spaces for radio buttons and check boxes when they are added to a form. For example, the first check box added to a form using Acrobat is named Check Box1.

  Remember to use Save As to save any changes so that an update history is not saved as part of the file.

I get the same error message and I have no spaces in any field names, no special characters, no lower case letters. Just upper case letters and numbers.

 

I have also tried saving as Acrobat 6, 7, & 8, and also both static & dynamic!
