Animated GIF images

Hi,
While using the ECM Connector to grab images from MediaBin, we noticed an animated gif is transformed into a single frame image.

We apply a task to the extracted image for resizing it.

Is this a problem with our setup or is this a bug? MB 4.5.1, Win 2k SP4

A follow up question to that is, is it necessary to flatten the image for the color space to be changed? I receive a color space error on trying to change it to RGB. It says you must flatten the image before conversion.

We do support animated GIF's but the format only allows for them to be in Indexed RGB (i.e. color mapped) mode. Therefore to change their colorspace you would have to flatten which in this case means extracting only the first frame.

Do you have any idea if animated gifs can be resized? We have a job that extracts the image in 90 X 120 pixels. For animated GIF's the result is a 90 X 120 image consisting of the first frame of the animation.

Unfortunately not for a combination of reasons. First due to how resizing takes place, one cannot directly resize Indexed RGB images; they have be be converted to RGB first. Now, in theory, one could convert to RGB resize and convert back to Indexed RGB and this is how you would resize a single frame GIF. However, in an attempt to protect people from themselves, we disallow conversion to RGB for multiframe GIF's because unless one subsequently converts back to Indexed RGB the resultant file would be unusable and we do not "look ahead" in the task to check whether one has another color converter later on.

It may, however, be possible to construct an AGS script to do what you want via the AGS Encoder.
