McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i Causes Memory Leak When Scanning Scripts
The information in this article applies to:
Product: Metastorm BPM
Version: 6.x 7.x
Issue
Metastorm BPM users may get error messages when trying to open folders, take actions, or submit forms that call VBScript or JScript scripts.
When the Metastorm Process Engine executes scripts, memory usage by the dllhost.exe process used by the Engine account continues to increase without fully releasing (indicating a memory leak). Eventually, the Engine stops responding and must be restarted.
Resolution
This is a known issue with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i. It is caused by the McAfee ScriptScan component, which causes memory leaks in third-party applications that use the Windows Script Host to process VBScript or JScript scripts. This includes the Metastorm Process Engine.
According to the McAfee website, this problem is resolved in McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and in cumulative patch 13 and later for 8.0i.
NOTE: Additional problems have been reported when using Metastorm BPM with patch 13. It is recommended that patch 15 or later be used.
