"_SaveAs method of Workbook class failed" When Exporting to Excel 2003

Issue

In ProVision 6.2.1, when you try to use the translator interface to export to Excel 2003, you will receive a "\_SaveAs method of Workbook class failed" error, and the export fails.

Resolution

To bypass this error, try exporting the data to a file called 'Sheet1.xls' located in your 'My Documents' folder. If this file already exists, delete it and try again. Saving your data with the file extension .xls will save it in Excel 2003 format thus allowing you to export to Excel 2003. If you have Excel 2007 this is not be an issue nor is it an issue in ProVision 6.2.2.

This works for export, but have you found any way to import after editing in xl?

Hi Ted,

We have not heard of any issues from other users when importing files from Excel to ProVision (using Translator). Please note, Development has targeted to try and address this issue in v6.2.2 (due out in late June). We did some testing with 2k3 and import into ProVision and didn't encounter any issues (even with the export error message). You may be encountering a bug. If you have not already can you submit a case for this issue in the ProVision Support Site?

To clarify the comments in the KB article, it really isn’t necessary to specify ‘sheet1.xls’ as the output file. In fact, no matter what you specify that is where the output is being written. Since specifying that name doesn’t eliminate the error message, there isn’t really an advantage to specifying it.
