v9 chained action problem

I think there may be an issue with the timing of setting the variable, as you said. When I look at my solution, I set the variable when opening the form or starting the action as I think I recall having the same problem as you.

Basically the chained action value seems to be evaluated before the action completes and the variable is set.

This shouldn't be problem, you can save this with new solution and all should works fine.

Here you have an project with solution (project in one folder, and solution in another one, but this should work )

As you said.

The main problem is with different instances of the same MBO i think.

If you will look a little bit deeper into this problem, you have sequence:

1) on form exit I try to assign value to process mbo - but to new instance (or reference - im not sure) assigned to form. On this event I have value in this instance.

2) on action compleated - you have access to mbo directly as I understand (not to new instance like on form event). If you try to check this value on when action completed - this value will be like before on form exit.

I'm not sure, if I clearly describe what I want to show. Let me know if you have the same problem.

I tried with just the process BO, the form hangs in submit.

would be great if Metastorm could publish events sequence, like:

1) when form exit

2) when action completed

3) when stage started

4) BO Commit

5) conditions on conditional actions (this which are leveng destination stage) evaluate

6) chained actions evaluate

Now, i don't know what is happen behinde user interface

It looks like big problem if user should chose next step in chain!

If the action being chained to uses the ToDo list role please can you try and use a different role and see if that fixes the problem.

Yes it does then work if you set the Process BO on the form itself. It still does not work if you set the process BO from the Local BO on form save, however, which is a similar problem to the one I had.

It seems that if you set a variable in the on form save, or when action commits, the new value will not be used for the chained action evaluation.

Does anyone has a working chained action sample, or is this feature completly defect? I told the customer how easy it is to build wizard funcionality (in 7.6 it works fine) and now i can't implement this.

I can't find any running solution. The Form hangs everytime after submit the first action.

Well, we have used it many times, no problem.

CXan you post an example of chained actions not working, and perhaps someone could tell you why.

It's the old issue that you cannot use the to do list role for the second action if chained. The alert list is not filled at the time the chain is attempted. Add Originator' to the second action and all should be well.

I know this chain is over 2 years old, but wondering if/when it had been fixed. I am trying to implement this in v9.1.2.2 (planning to upgrade to 9.2.0.1 very soon before too many users get used to how the UI looks in 9.1).

A form opens, the user selects an option which determines which action to chain to next. The chain value (action name) is assigned by a instance of the procedure BO on the form (CAMCloseData1). I see the value is assigned to the instance of the BO on save (CAMCloseData1), but the actual underlying CAMCloseData is not updated when the chain occurs. The value is always empty.

I am not certain I recall correctly, but I do recall that if I set a field on the form (either manually, in a server script or a client script), that value remains for the chained action evaluation. For some inexplicable reason, if the value is set on the form save, it does not get picked up. I assume the chained action evaluation occurs in a sequence which does not really make sense to me. I wish it was properly documented.

I had tried it on change of the field itself, but didn't seem to work. I should double check it though.

Meanwhile, I am cheating and able to use ActionNote to pass the value ... I just have to remember to clear it so it doesn't look like the user entered a note of the action name. Not an ideal or proper solution, but its working as a quick temporary solution to demo the concept.
