Navigator Modeling

Does anyone have any information or documentation on how to properly create a 'Navigator model' within Provision?

  • Hi TIm:

The Navigator model is used to conduct impact analysis.  You first need to decide on a focal point which could be any object such as a system or any model which could be a process etc.  Next you will be able to view the object's neighborhood which is all of it's relationships. These relationships are created via object to object associations, or relationships created via links to other objects and the relationships it has with other objects in the various models the focal point object may reside in.

After viewing all of the relationships of your focal point object or model you can then progressively disclose the relationships you wish to view in the Navigator model.

You can start by selecting Modelers in the Menu bar and then select Navigator . Next select your focal point either an object or a model then scroll through the object list and select the particular object or model you are looking for. Once you select your focal point it then becomes the name and the subject of your newly formed Navigator model.  Next select the icon that appears below your focal point object which is in the shape of a cross and this will expose every relationship this object has.  From here you can select or deselect what you wish to disclose in the model in order to conduct your impact analysis.

  • Hi,

Is there a document/video available to demonstrate 'Navigation Modeling' with a sample?
