Attachments storage

Hi,

Our security officer would like to know how the attachements are binary uploaded in the database with MBPM 7.6?

Are there any temporary files stored somewhere or is everything managed in the memory? or is there another way of management?

The files are processed in memory by the engine. How this is done is almost certainly proprietry information.There are no temproray files that I am aware of, but I am not certain what occurs on the web server (IIS) side. The file is essentially turned into a text file, each byte becoming a pair of HEX digits (00 to FF). There is also a prefix describing the file. This is then saved in a CLOB field.

The only alternative would be to use the EDMS functionality and make the attachment a reference to an electronic document. From what I know the EDMS integration is fairly basic but functional.

We are managing critical data in attachments and we want to be sure the data are not available at any point (even during the upload).

Does someone from Metastorm has more information? Especially on the web server side.

Hi,

The only thing that can be added to Jermoe's description is how the files are encoded.

First they are MIME encoded and then Double Byte encoded. This is why they end up approximately 2.4 times as big in the database.

No temporary files are produced on the server side.

For the alternative we do provide a DMS framework for integration DMS's with our clip field type and attachment fucntionality. We provide a working reference example for this integration based on SharePoint document storage.

Further there are some third party (Partner) produced integrations with Hummingbird and Meridio I have come across in the past.
