I am pleased to announce the availability of the Metastorm BPM Version 9.0 Repository Migration Assistant that enables customers to migrate their production data from a Version 7.6 to a Version 9.0 environment. This, together with the File Migration Assistant and the Side-by-Side compatibility previously released, completes the suite of tools to allow our customers to take full advantage of the enhancements provided by Version 9.0 by moving their processes to Version 9.0.
Scope of the Release
The Repository Migration Assistant provides a wizard based interface for the migration of system and process data from a Version 7.6 repository into a Version 9.0 repository. This release provides significant benefits over and above the comparable Version 7 tools including:
- The ability to migrate projects (procedures) either individually or in batch. This provides our customers with additional flexibility to migrate to Version 9 at their own pace.
- Improved usage of the SQL Server and Oracle bulk load APIs which provides significant reductions in the time it takes to migrate data.
- The ability to pause or cancel a migration once it is started. This enables our customers to correct errors or to rollback changes mid-migration.
- The ability to save migration settings to file so that they can be executed multiple times. This will help customers when moving from QA to Production environments.
- The ability to migrate non-Metastorm database objects such as tables, views, and stored procedures. This allows customers to easily move any related data between systems without having to create custom scripts.
In addition, the File Migration Assistant has been updated for this release and is now available. This update includes maintenance items as well as a new capability for saving file migration results that can be utilized by the Repository Migration Assistant to assist with mapping stage and action names between the 7.6 and 9 repositories.
For more information about either of these two utilities, please see the Release Notes.
