BPM 7.6.3 - Grid auto-selecting first record - issues

In BPM 7.6.3, a grid will auto-select the first record and there is no way to disable this feature.   This creates a couple of headaches:

 

1.   Read only forms located in the tab selection at the top are buggy if they have a grid.   If you click on a tab with a grid and then click on another tab while the grid is doing the auto-selection, you will get a "Stack Overflow" javascript error.

 

2.  Grids that load text boxes when a grid is clicked are now confusing with the auto-selection feature.  If a user adds an item to the grid, the grid will automatically select the item that was just added and repopulate the texboxes even if you cleared them.

 

I'm in contact with Metastorm and they said they are about to release a hotfix for version 9 that will address the grid issues.  I'm not sure what they will be doing for 7.6.3.

 

If anyone has any suggestions, please advise.

• As a temporary workaround, 7.6.3.4 hotfix offers an option to set grid behaviour to the first row of a grid highlighted but not selected. Switch from 7.6 SR3 behaviour can be configured via HighlightRowOnly setting in the web.config  as follows:

Setting HighlightRowOnly value to 0 reverts to 7.6 SR3 behaviour.

Hi Newman, I really didn't like this "feature" either and similar to yourself contacted Metastorm about it too. At the time there was no sign of any fixes ti this, so we ended up taking a rather simple approach and didn't upgrade to SR3. If the functionality is causing you to re-develop any forms, then maybe a downgrade could be the easiest solution for you.

I think you will find you cannot roll-back SR3, it's a re-install so weight up your options before going down this route.

As Geoff posted, if you do not like the new functionality introduced for Grids in SR3 and can still safely update as long as you also install the 7.6.3.4 hotfix or higher which adds the switch in the Web.Config file for the Metastorm BPM Web Client that enabled the previous functionality.

 

This change was made based requests from customers who did not like how the Web Client displayed the first row of a grid highlighted but programmatically it was not selected.

 

However Product Management did agreed that the implementation of the change was imperfect and had the switch added in to allow customers to revert to the old functionality.
