Promote method returned an invalid value for the distributed transaction

I deployed one of the sample processes that came with version 9 and in the web client, I clicked on the appropriate action on the Blank Forms page to start the process. The form displays and I entered info into the required fields, but when I submit it, the following error was displayed:

Exception 'The Promote method returned an invalid value for the distributed transaction.' occurred when attempting to 'MBO update'.

Has anyone seen this error before?

This sounds similar to an issue I was experiencing, if the database server is on a seperate machine, ensure the MS DTC is setup for both machines.

If you do a google for MS DTC and limit it to the MS Site there is a couple of KB articles depending upon the server version you are running.

Sounds like this could also be related to maybe not having Oracle Data Access Components installed, as per my response to your other post.

Thanks for the insight.

It appears that most of the components of the ODAC were installed, but when comparing the ODAC installation specs from Oracle against my installed Oracle products, I noticed the Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server didn't appear in my list of installed Oracle products. It looks like this may be what's causing the error, but I won't know for sure until installing this component (if possible) or doing a fresh install.

I installed the Oracle Services for MS Transaction Server. That finally fixed the problem. Thanks for the advice!

I also had this problem with a fresh installation of Oracle 64 bit 11gR2 11.2.0.3.0. Restarting the MS Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service after installing the Oracle client fixed it for me.
