The install of the (x86) c++ Redist fails on Windows server 2008 R2 64 bit. I installed the x64 bit version of c++ and the Metastorm installer still fails to install the engines.

Plese check in the registry for the upgrade patch. This might occur when redistributable package copy the physical files yet failed to update it in windows registry.
Try to resolve the registry problem from msdn for corresponding update patch.
