Performance Monitoring

Hi,

Has anyone got any good tips on the best way to monitor an installation to identify (if any) bottlenecks? We are running in Oracle 10.3 and Windows 2003.

Also, the post here:

Talks about a component I do not seem to have available in either 7.5 or 7.6 series installation. Where could I get this from to see what counters are available.

TIA

  • Hi Geoff,

This is a good question and a challenging one.  It is difficult to generically determine if their are bottlenecks in a process without context to the actually solution.  In one instance folders backing up at a system stage may indicate a problem, in another instance that may be "as designed".

I would think that comprehensive load testing should shake out (or at least highlight) most bottlenecks in a system.

For the question about the Performance Monitor extensions, I recall we removed them from the product due to a negative impact/defect of some kind.

    Paul...

  • There are some BAM tools provided with 7.6 which may help.

We have some highly configurable BAM tools for version 9 for free:

I am guessing this may not be of much use, but as Paul says, any queues may be intentional. It all depends on what the business activity is, and what it should be, and are targets being met. In our tools we allow users to set alert thresholds for folders waiting at or passing through Stages, for example.
