What firewall ports are required for floating license server
Just wondering if anyone knows what ports are required for the 6.2 PV floating license server. We have opened ports 27000 and 27001 but are still not able to login using the new license server. We get a BORROW PERIOD has expired message code -118. The server apears to be UP and working OK.
Cheers
Roger

Hey Roger,
It really depends what you have specified in your license file (you can set which ports to use). By default the ports 27000-27009 get used. So if possible set the port range.

Hi Matt,
We have left it as default but I received this message from our firewall team:
"I can see traffic from 10.48.206.22 and 10.115.12.27 to 172.23.23.240 port 59271 being dropped by the FW. We might have to allow that port as well."
I also remember that when we set this up on another server in another company there were similar firewall issues. The traffic mentioned above was from myself and another test user. Just trying to get clarity here.
Cheers

Hey Roger,
I prefer to specify the ports for the Floating License Server and thus have to open fewer ports. Here are some instructions on how to do this.
You can actually specify what ports the FLS will use at all times, you will need to have 2 ports open for the Floating License Server. Here are instructions on how to do so:
To set these ports you will need to edit the license file in the default location at 'C:\pvLicServer51\Licenses\pvwlicense.lic'
When opening the license file in notepad the lines you will need to adjust will appear as:
SERVER 192.168.111.252 DISK_SERIAL_NUM=Something
VENDOR pvlicmgrIn order to specify the two ports that FLEXlm will use, you must modify those first two lines in the following manner:
SERVER 192.168.111.252 DISK_SERIAL_NUM=Something 27001
VENDOR pvlicmgr Port=27000You are not restricted to using 27000 or 27001. Any port can be used as long as it's not in use by another program. For instance you could use "SERVER 192.168.111.252 DISK_SERIAL_NUM=Something 30
VENDOR pvlicmgr Port=40" if you wanted to.You would also want the client machines to have the environment variable setup to connect to the port specified in the license file.
To do this, open the ProVision on a client machine. Go to Help -> About ProVision -> Click License -> Click Configure License -> In the 'Server' field you want the port and ip to appear as 27001@192.168.0.1 (Or whatever IP you have the server set to). Click 'Configure' to the left of the server field. Close out the windows and re-open ProVision. If you use the default 27000 you will not need to set that on the client machines because ProVision is automatically configured to recognize this setting.
Thanks,
Matt Michael

Thanks Matt,
I will pass this on to the installers.
