Provision Parallel Authoring

Can someone explain me how to do parallel authoring in ProVision?

Our repository is growing and I have 5 architects building different processes and models in a shared repository, but only 1 at a time can open it update mode.

How are we suposed to work in parallel in different models, while still sharing objects?

If I missed it in the documentation, please point me in the right direction.

Hello Martin,

I would advise using a Teamwork repository stored on a shared network location. Or, if you have access to it, use Knowledge Exchange server.

Wtih the Teamwork repository, you will need to check out a notebook or set of objects, and then have your users work on those in their local repositories. After they've finished their changes, they check their data back in. Due to the nature of .mdb files, you can't have users directly accessing (or checking in) to the teamwork repository at one time.

Using Knowledge Exchange, users can work on individual models within the same notebook by just checking out the model they want to work on. This presumes that the separate models are not requiring the same objects (in workflows, usually there is little overlap). However, only one user may work on any given model at a time.

This is the biggest issue facing ProVision: Not using opportunistic locking at the object level. Although the method requires an active network connection, the world is very connected these days and I cannot remember the last time I had to work on a Notebook completely "off-line". Allowing access to any model by multiple people and just locking objects when needed would be a HUGE improvement to ProVision, and one that I asked for almost four years ago.
