Creating a new KE Repository notebook by importing a notebook file...

From ProVision 6.2.3, when you have a local notebook file (.pvw), what is the easiest way to create a new notebook on a connected KEServer in an existing Repository?

  • I reached out found and followed these 3 steps and was successful…

1.Open ProVision local PC Repository,  like Sample ( note: not from the KEServer ), right click on local PC Repository and click open.

    1. Import your .PVW file to the local PC Repository

                a. Interface => ProVision Objects => Import from File

                b. Browse and find the .PVW file, name the notebook.

Confirm your .PVW file is now checked in and a new notebook on your local PC Repository.

    1. In your local PC Repository, right click on the new notebook name and select “Check in”.

                a. Select “To a new notebook in the following repository” ( pick the KEServer repository )

                b. Confirm the notebook name.

(note: Server Error 500 indicates “Enable data compression” box is checked so right click on KEServer, select “Detail”, select “Details…” uncheck “Enable data compression”, and try again)

Confirm the KEServer Repository has the new notebook.

  • Hi

An even easier way may be as follows.

-simply right click on the the notebook you want to copy while it's in your local repository, select save as 'Notebook', give the notebook a new name and save

-check in the new notebook to the KE repository you want

  • The easiest way of all is to click on 'Inventory' in the Index Bar to display the inventory view and then right mouse click on the root of the tree where the file name is displayed and select 'Check in'.  You can then use the check in wizard to check the file into a new notebook.
