What does the "Common" column on the Roles tab in the V9 admin tools mean?

I am tried to figure out exactly what the "Common" column means beside the Role Name, on the Roles tab in the V9 admin tools.  It defaults to True.  There doesn't seem to be a way to change it.  I reviewed the administration guide and could not find any information.  I'd like to know what it means, if you can change it, how to change it if that is possible.

  • I had a look, and it is baffling.

There are three roles on my system that are set to 'false' in the web tools. One is from a Contract Approval example from Metastorm. One is from a solution we built from scratch (the QuickStart training course one).

Thse are the odd things we find:

There are no differences to these roles and others that we can see in the Designer

There are no differences to these roles and others that we can see in the eRole table (so we cannot see where the value in the web tools is coming from).

You cannot set any of these roles set to 'false' as deployment or administrator roles.

    Curiouser, and curioser, said Alice.....

  • This relates to roles that are set to be limited to a particular process. If you select the process for a static role (and add no calculation - that makes it 'static'), you will get a 'false' in this field in the admin tools.

The only place I can see this could be gleaned from is the eMapRole table. If it has only only one 'map' (process), you get 'flase' here. I assume that if you have the same named role in another solution set to another process, the value in thic column would be 'true'.

I am not sure what use it is, really, especially without any documentation. The SQL to produce it would not be trivial, so somebody must know why it was done!
