"Ideas" forum effectiveness for Provision / Knowledge Exchange.

There is almost no evidence that the "Ideas" forum is an effective means for users requesting or suggesting change to ProVision / Knowledge Exchange.

  • of the 20 ideas implemented none relate to ProVision / Knowledge Exchange
  • of the 7 accepted only 1 relates to ProVision / Knowledge Exchange

It would seem that ProVision development is getting significantly less attention than BPM.

I've been reviewing all the ideas and there are some pretty innovative ideas in there. In many cases the ideas are calling for functionality to match what's available in the market, or that resolve issues with using ProVision and Knowledge Exchange.

While the concept of users being able to see each others ideas and comment on them is a good one, overall I think the evidence is that it is ineffective.  The previous method of rasing an enahncement request case at least got a response.  This needs to be reviewed to see if it can be improved.  Right now it's not working.

  • Hi Jim,

You make some great points here, and I agree communication needs to be better with the community. I personally pledge to change that going forward. Despite what it seems, we are looking at these suggestions and adding them into the ProVision/KE roadmap. The problem is, that's not being communicated back to the community.

Take for instance your most recent suggestion, conditional styling. We have already, very partially, implemented what we're calling ProVision Expression Language (PEL). You can see it in our expanded model interpretations in KE. PEL will allow us to provide conditional styling to objects based on anything, property values, relationships, etc, This was in direct response to user feedback and we’re currently working on expanding this into both ProVision and KE.

I'll reply to specific suggestions and fill in more detail related to each. And, where we don't have any, I look forward to working with you and the community to define and implement it.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Mark

That sounds like a positive move.  Thanks and the news on that conditional formating is being worked on is extremely welcome.

In my last job we manually applied a format based on the architectural mode and status.  It was unworkable, especially as the style option set for this object in all models was acting up (however it appear fixed in 6.3 - I tested it yesterday)
