Hi there,

Is it possible in TS6.1 to translate all the english caracters into Japanese characters(ie., complete translation of the content), during the generate page operation. Basically my client requires this on the fly event. Has anyone faced such kind of requirement and please suggest me a feasible approach on this.

I don't think translation of characters is what you want (I don't think there's a 1:1 mapping)
Even word-to-word translation doesn't make sense (the ordering of words and/or combinations that have different meanings in other languages makes this an improbable, if not impossible, tactic)
There are a number of translation service vendors out there, and at least a few of them indicate that they interface or integrate with TeamSite - this is not a free service, but rather something you pay for and usually it requires a decent amount of planning to make it as efficient (time and money) as possible.

As explained by Fish, this sort of things is normally not a tool or software for you to buy and install. It's a translation
Service provided by certain Companies with (sub)contracting interpreters.

I've dealt with couple of these Vendors. If exists at all, TS integration is usually implemented in the form of WF-related
API that allows you to construct Workflows with "Translation Task(s)" taking place on Vendor's Servers. Some network/Firewall
configuration is required. All that is far from cheap, more so if you contract for fast translation turnaround. In any case,
there are time limits that you can not negotiate down. All they guarantee is "this or better time for up to X Pages in such and such languages"

You should check the localization partners your firm is using for their other ventures. If they already dont have a set vendor you should be able to search for some on Google for them.

I've worked with a couple of these and one of them integrated with TeamSite effeciently. The jobs were routed directly into the translation system with the Translators recieveing email notifications about the job from their system. The jobs followed the translation systems workflows and were routed back into a destination structure in TeamSite and there's no manual intervention required for copying/moving files around. It is able to PARSE the DCR's though the HTML formatiing was a pain.

Hi,

In Our organisation, There was a requirement to translate all the english Content to Japanese, German and other scandinavian languages. We have integrated TeamSite with with an external vendor like Translation.com (TDC) via Globallink.

A copywriter, as part of the workflow can choose to send it to translation. The Workflow, would FTP the Files to an pre-agreed zone and once the translation is complete, the files are submitted back to Interwoven workflow.

This is at a very high level. Lemme know if you need more details and i can share it.

Hi all,

For More clarity around this approach, here is what we have implemented.

1. We have a tie up with a 3rd party vendor called translations.com who would translate the content sent to them in a xml format (which is basically a DCR in our case)

2. We have Integrated with Translations.com via a product called as Global Link is a web-based application that streamlines the submission, delivery, and
tracking of multilingual content to and from translations.com.

3. we have replicated a directory structure in translations.com. similar to our teamsite branching structure for content submissions.

4. Our workflows are designed, such that at the author/copywriters have an option to choose to send a DCR for translation. If the DCR is flagged for translation as part of the workflow, the DCR are sent to Translation.com via the GlobalLink.

5. Once the translation is complete, the DCR is submitted back to the workflow via global link which is then reviewed and commited into the database

In terms of effort in implementing, i would say its of medium complexity based on the translation approach which is ideal to your scenario. About integrating to an external vendor the effort involved would be configuring global link to talk to an external vendor like translation.com

However, i guess the much bigger effort would be to evaluate the translation vendor who is best suited for your business and come to a common agreement in terms of operations model, cost etc.

Also, take a look at a product named Fluint by a company called The Klish Group.

They deliver some pretty slick web services, a fully-functioning workflow you can tailor to your own needs, and also a custom UI that you can compile in to the TS interface.

I don't have first-hand experience with their app, but what I've seen on our client's site looks pretty nice.
