Linking objects to activities within Provision

Good morning ~

Is there a way to link multiple objects to a particular activity within ProVision?

I have a requirements analyst that needs to link multiple use case diagrams to a single activity.  Is the navigator the only way to do this?

  • Hi Tim,

To visually show that link your best case would be to likely use the Navigator.  You could also show this via the Association tab, but the link would clearly not be as apparent.

  • Thanks Matt ~

This lines up with my train of thought....My requirements analyst is attempting to create multiple use case diagrams from a single activity using the 'component models' functionality.

Since the tool appears to only allow one model to be created from a single activity, I am thinking that she should create all of the use cases and then visually display them using the Navigator model as you stated below.

Another question for you.....Are there any models that allow you to associate use cases to an object?  I have not seen one yet.

  • Hey Tim,

Did you create a Use Case object? If no, then really the only way to create an association to the Use Case Model would be to show that in the Navigator. Otherwise the associations you make would be to the subject of the Use Case model (for instance an Activity) rather than to that specific model.

Regarding what your analyst is trying to achieve, have you tried setting up Dimensions for the activity? This would give some flexibility in defining Use Cases for a single activity, but you could show the Activity in a bit more granularity based on how you Dimension it.

  • Matt ~

I will take a look at the dimensions functionality and let you know how it goes.

The issue that we are running into is that our analysts are using Visio to create the use cases.  The use cases that they are creating are essentially process and workflow models.

The have been told that they now have to create these in Provision.  So now we are trying to reverse engineer how to put these existing documents into ProVision without frustrating our business SMEs.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hey Tim,

If you can create a ticket in the PV Support Site and can send me a sample of one of your Use Case visio diagrams I can take a look at the steps it would take to import that into ProVision.

You can read more about how to import Visio diagrams into ProVision if you do a search for 'Visio' in the Glossary (Help -> Glossary) and read the topic 'PVW Visio Source and Target Wizard'.
