ProVision intermittent problem

Hi,

I am running ProVision 6.23 (I think - can't tell for sure because it won't start at the moment!).  When I try to start it it says

"Provision does not have write access to C:\PVDATA\v623\connections.pvr.

1.   This file may be in use by another application.  Please exit ...  OR

2.  You do not have permission to access this file..."

Screen capture attached.

I can't tell why either of these would be the case.  Only solution seems to be to reboot the PC.  This is VERY annoying!

Most of the time it works fine; often this problem occurs if I put my PC to sleep and then wake it up (not whilst PV is running!)

Ideas?

  • Hello Peter,

After turning your computer back on from 'sleep', can you check the running processes (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC -> Look for an entry 'PVW32.exe' or ProVision)?  Next, can you try opening the C:\PVDATA\v623\connections.pvr in notepad and note the results?

After this, can you try opening ProVision?

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Peter,

One other thing, what actions are you taking?  Are you closing ProVision and then immediately Sleeping or closing the lid on your laptop?

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

    thanks for the responses.

I certainly don't just close the lid; normally put to sleep and wait until all goes quiet before I close the lid.  And will have close PV down beforehand.

  • No Provision processes are shown as running.

And there IS no C:\PVDATA\v623\connections.pvr in that directory.  See attached.

    Regards, Peter

  • OK, having rebooted again (because I again got shut out!) I could open the connections file BEFORE I opened PV.  It is attached.

    Thanks, Peter

  • Hi Peter,

What Operating System are you using?

  • Hi Peter,

This will likely require more investigation.  If you are under support, can you create a ticket for further investigation?

    Thank you,

    Matt Michael
