Importing Parent Child Relationships
Hello,
I'm trying to use the Translator to import in from Excel, processes that decompose into smaller sub-processes i.e. Parent child relationships. So if I have a process called 'Process 1' it will decompose into Process 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 etc.
Can you help me with what I should be selecting in the Table Recogniser screen for the Object Type and the Property type please?
Many thanks,
Paul

Paul,
Exporting a small hierarchy to Excel might help by providing examples but the information required to create a process hierarchy with no object detail is the following:
- An Excel sheet named 'Business Process' and a sheet named 'Parent-Child Link'.
- The 'Business Process' sheet should have a column named 'Name'. Other columns can be added if additional property population is desired (e.g. 'Description') but 'Name' is the only required column. For your example, a row with 'Process 1' in the name column and a row with 'Process 1.1' in the name column should be present. (Actually, if no additional properties are being populated, the 'Business Process' sheet is not required.)
- The 'Parent-Child Link' sheet should have columns named 'From Name', 'From Type', 'To Name' and 'To Type'. These columns should be populated with a parent object name in 'From Name' and a child object name in 'To Name'. The type columns should be populated with the respective type names for the parent and child objects. For your example, a row with 'Process 1' in the 'From Name' column, 'Business Process' in 'From Type', 'Process 1.1' in 'To Name' and 'Business Process' in 'To Type' should be present.
Please note that all object type names that I've provided are from the Enterprise Architecture modeling language. If you are using a different modeling language, be sure the type names match your modeling language or you will be forced to use the tabular recognizer to map the objects.
Good luck,
Paul Gaffney
