cross version DTC doesnt work

we're basically trying to setup new solution and installation on v9. we already run a few processes in v7.6 platform with sql 2005. while developing processes in v9, we need to access sql 2005 DB including metastorm v 7.6 DB to read some data. Hence we're trying to use MSDTC to do this based on article and guide provided in this link: http://bpmtalk.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/metastormv9installationguide.pdf

but after following it, we still unable to achieve what we intend to do. Details of both servers as follows:

v7.6 (engine & DB) server:
OS: windows server 2003
DB: sql server 2005
host: windows XP pro SP3

v9.1 (engine & DB) server:
OS: windows server 2008 R2
DB: sql server 2008 R2
host: windows 7 pro SP1

Both server is a VM running in a separate machine. host info is as per provided above.
