How can I get workflow "task name" into the presentation template ?

My external task in the WF will call an .ipl file , which will use iwgen to generate the output files.

I want to execute two database calls ( staging / production) from the presentation template according to

the work flow approvals. Which will generate two output files for two work flow tasks.

I'm not sure I understand why you want to do this - but you might look into the usage for iwpt_compile.ipl which has a flag called -iw_pt-arg (read the manuals for more detailed information).

Don't regen iwpt_compile instead. Pass the WF Task # (or the task name) to the PT with pt_args and use that information in the perl block

You may need to use the TeamSite::WFTask pm if you need more than task name.

My DCT has ten fields , five fields will be stored in the database. we want to use only one PT
** The author creates the dcr and previews the dcr . At this time , we want to see the content only ( no database update)
** The author kick off the work flow and the dcr is submitted to staging server ,
so that the staging database will be updated . As a part of the work flow the
admin submit the dcr to the production server , so the production database is updated.

My logic is to get the flag value from the TS to identify, whether the user selected the dcr for preview or generate ,
if it is a preview , then preview the content (no databases update)

When the user kick off the work flow and submit to staging , the staging database should be updated ,
if I can pass the WF task name ot task id in to the PT, I can call the Staging DB connection according to
the values passed from the WF. When the user submit the dcr to the production .,
Similar way I can call the production DB connection also

Please guide me , if I my logic is wrong or better way to implement this

As far as I can tell there are two aspects to it:

1. Detect 'View' vs 'Generate' and fork PT output accordingly.

Personally, I try to avoid this sort of processing. As long as this trick is used for virtualization only however, I consider
it a reasonably minor design offense.

2. Environment-dependent DB Update upon assets promotion.

That's pretty common requirement. Your idea to do that from within PT code seems incorrect though.
There is usually no need to couple PT Processing and DB Updates, it is much easier, more portable and more
flexible to do that separately. It is normally performed using dedicated External/CGI Tasks and OD/DD mechanisms.

Before implementing this , I am looking for expert’s guidance to review my logic

1. PT used for previewing the content .(NO db deceleration in PT.)
2. The Author Create the DCR., preview it .
3. Later , he will select the Work Flow for content approval.

7. I used an XML Parsing in side the .ipl to get the DCR values.
8. Once I read the values , I will update my Database.( db deceleration in side the .ipl)

Please explain me ,if I am wrong or redesign
Not:- Due to some issues , I can not use DD deploy.
We are using PostgreSQL as database

That looks conceptually correct. If I were you I would also use TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRparser and TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRnode classes instead of raw XMLParser/Node.
