Weird thing with text boxes.

So I have a text box (set to a folder variable) inside a panel that will show and hide. When the panel becomes visible the first time the text box is blank even though I know there is data in there. When you put the focus on the box the data becomes visible. Has anyone seen this yet?  Oh, also I tried to use some JavaScript to set the focus and this also did not work.
