Newbie--Error Creating Base Entry

I'm a LAPI Java user converting to appworks due to LAPI being discontinued. After installing Gateway on Apache, can't get past "Choose Your Database" in the Gateway setup using the Embedded Derby database. I keep getting "Error Creating Base Entry" in the "OtdsDeploy Started" section. Any help will be appreciated.

LAPI has been superseded by SOAP Web Services (LES WS, CWS) and by the REST API, which both are provided by the CS itself, without adding other OpenText products into your solutions. You do not need AppWorks to use the modern CS APIs.

AppWorks is a platform for mobile application development with perspective of desktop applications too; not the provider of the CS REST API. It is sometimes confused, because AppWorks can work as a reverse proxy, exposing REST APIs like the CS REST API from your intranet to the extranet users.

Can you provide more details or clarify below, here is some info I see from your ticket...

installed gam-64 in Apache,
but can't get past the stage of "Choose Your Database" in the Gateway setup
using the Embedded Derby database. I keep getting "Error Creating Base Entry"
in the "OtdsDeploy Started" section. We have CSDS, not OTDS, installed in our CS modules so I don't have a OTDS
database to connect to for this step.
