Copy over iw-home

Hi Experts,

I have a query, stupid it may sound; my query is if for some reason your iw-home get corrupt (due to a patch install or any other activity), would it be possible to copy over a back-up iw-home and restart the services.

If not, how can one best do a safe gaurd against any corruption?

If you mean the backing store corruption:

If you think the patch install has coprrupted the backing store, u need to uninstall the patch and copy over the old iw-home. (this should ordinarily be not happening for the supported upgrade path)
If this is due to some other activity, you can backup the current store and restore the older one.

If the installation directories are corrupted.

You should take the back up of the backing store and then can try the unistall of the patch. Else you will need to uninstall everything and then install the desired version and plug the new backing store.

If you do regular backups of iw-home - there is no reason that I can think of right now, why you shouldn't be able to restore iw-home from a backup image/tape.

If you follow the instructions in the patches - they usually tell you to make copies of the files you are about to replace (SP's do this automatically, patches used to, and I believe still do, require you to do so manually) - then if there's a problem you can simply reverse the steps by copying back the files you copied aside.

If you maintain your configuration files in an "admin" branch within TeamSite, you should be able to recover older versions of any configuration file or script that changed over time.

Doing a complete reinstall should be a last-choice and should only be necessary if some part of your process for maintaining iw-home isn't well defined or followed.

By your explanation it seems the webapp is corrupted....in that case it is wise to just rebuild the webapp.....most of the rest of iw-home is code and configs...do you know if any of the newlyaddded/updated code has ruined the things?
