iwinstall is missing

I have a situation were on our development box iwinstall directory under /usr/install is missing. And it been missing for a long long time.
Would it be fine to copy the directory from Production box to development box, since box the boxes are 6.1 and solaris 8?

Any downside to it specially if we have to install a patch on this developement box?

Sailesh,

iwinstall directory is usually at the same level as iw-home. Make sure you searching at the correct location.
Copying the iwinstall directory is not a good idea as apart from the other things it contains the log of the installations on that machine.

Thanks Chetan, yes did search at /usr (same location as of iw-home). Any other means to recover or regenerate content into it?

If you want to be sure it's accurate - uninstall / reinstall.
If you are 100% positively sure without any doubt that the same patches and SPs were applied to your dev and prod servers - you might be able to get away with copying the iw-install directory from one server to another - but it's probably not officially supported ...

Everything is same infact build # is also same. Worth giving it a shot !! Smiley Happy

Depending on what files are saved in there - there may be hostname and/or IP address values in some files that would need to be changed ...
