SmartUI Architecture/Usage questions

Hello,
I’m new to SmartUI and have a few questions on usage and general architecture.
I followed the SmartUI SDK documentation to deploy a custom app on the NodeJS server. I haven't used Oclipse to deploy it on Content Server yet, but I'm trying to understand the architecture of SmartUI widgets running on Content Server. NodeJS is not configured there, do the widgets run on IIS there?
