Teamsite and OD connection

Hi,
I want to know, does teamsite estabishes any connection with OD base server when I invoked data deployment thru workflow ?
As, I can use OD standalone, I do not need teamsite.
Also, If yes, which connection does it esablish (TCP) ?
Sorry, I m not a networking guy. Dont know much about it.

No, the WFT runs an IPL that runs a command call iwod start

As, I can use OD standalone, I do not need teamsite.

Yes OD can run without TeamSite, that is not uncommon at all.

OD knows about TS and can do somethings specifically designed for TS (like Edition compares), but TS is not required to run OpenDeploy.

Also, If yes, which connection does it esablish (TCP) ?

It makes a TCP connection over a specified port, usually 20014, between the sender and the receiver.

Internally, I *think* it reads the current and previous editions from the Y: drive or /iwmnt. From that it determines the differences and then deploys those. However it may use some internal command (like iwrlog or iwlist) to determine the differences.

YES...in case of Edition compares, OD needs to connect to TS server.

Its making bit clear to me. For any simple deployments there is no need of connection between TS and OD. But for any special deployments (Edition compare) there need to be a connection setup betn them.
Is this connection also a TCP one ?

More than likely it uses CSSDK / TeamSite system calls rather than running CLTs - but that's just a slightly educated guess.

TeamSite and OpenDeploy are both products from the same vendor - as such both products could contain code to capitalize on integration between the two.

In this case, I believe that OpenDeploy's BaseServer contains code that knows how to communicate with TeamSite to retrieve information (edition information for OD, metadata information for DD, etc.) - whether this is done via TCP is questionable - but more to the point - what does it matter how it's done? I think the more important question is do you have some need for this integration to take place? and if you're unsure - perhaps explaining the scenario better would lead to a more definitive response.

Unless of course you're trying to reverse-engineer something - in which case you're on your own as far as I'm concerned.

I think, from the OD documentation, it uses RMI to execute itself.
If any body having any concrete idea on this.

that is true...as per the manual, One of the underlying services of Interwoven products such as OpenDeploy and TeamSite is the RMI registry.All the binding is done on the basis of RMI.

nothing beside the usual OD manuals.
They won't put their whole back implementation/architecture in docs if they want to stay in business.... Smiley Happy
