Custom Icons for Site Map Navigation Node Links?
ajm1
I've got a customized version of the Site Map Navigation component that needs one final thing: each link needs to have an image icon next to it that an end user (editor, etc.) would choose and assign.
For example, I could have SHOP > PRODUCTS > SHIRTS and SHIRTS would have a little shirt icon next to it. Somewhere, a user constructing the site map would have assigned that image.
I'm looking for a way to implement this. It seems like extending the Site Map generator would work best (adding a file upload input to upload this icon), but we're not sure if that's even possible. We've also thought about adding a similar thing to Page properties, but, again, aren't sure if we can do it.
I've currently hijacked the Site Map node description field to store an arbitrary URL path to an image asset, but that's not sustainable. Anyone?

Two problems to solve here. First is to identify a node as some product type using the node label or some combination of the node label and it's ancestors' labels. Second is to map that product type to an image Datum; use an image for each product type icon you require.
This solution relies on the ability to discern your product type from your location in the site map.
