Hi all,

I am having the requirement to download all previous versions from thousands of files in teamsite and deploy these versions into data base. I am having rough idea that we can use the CLTs to download the version. but we have to run the CLT for every file. this is time exhausting task. Can we have CLT which may download the versions at a single shot. Or pls someone may give some other solution.

Need ur help if anyone can throw some lite on this :-) ....

we can use wrapper script working on 1 folder rather than 1 file but no other information about wrapper script.

Do you mean that you want to extract edition/version information from thousands of assets and then populate a DB table automatically ?

What Teamsite version,OS and DB are you using ?
Is this a migrated/upgraded Backing Store or did you just load content in a newly installed server ?

If you want to extract some infirmation from the versioned files, you can do so with the help of your customised script which will cover up a whole directory or, many such directories.
Try to keep the loop in limit as you said there are thousands of files, so you may run out of cache memory, or variables out of bound error, etc.

You can do this with the help of a perl script.

Thnx 4 ur reply. yes, we have a thousands of generated html files with the versions. we need to deploy these versions into the database.

TS 6.5, unix platform, DB yet to finalised.

This is not updated backing store. we migrated content on newly installed server.

You should be careful while doing the database updates, as there are too many files to be updated in database, so I would personally prefer to go in blocks of small segments as that would save you from the fear of any major rollback that may occur at any instance of program flow.

Yes Pawan, thnx for ur post....i understood ur point. My concern is to download the version, tat downloading can be done in small sample too. I was looking for a exact solution for this.

What all parameters do you require to be inserted into the database. Please be a bit more specific on your requirement to help us help you better.

May be they need a functionality in website to make user enable to history previous versions too..

Some of the fields will go in db as a colomn ...... let me know if u need more....

Are these files submitted DCRs ? if yes, you can easily parse them as get the desired value of any item and insert that into database.
If not, then you have to use other means to get the value.
Still, I am unclear about the downloading purpose, Can you please elaborate a bit on this. Is there any manual interaction involved here ?

The merits of this task are somewhat questionable - are you perhaps migrating away from using TeamSite?

Do you need every revision of every file, or every published (caught in an edition) version of every file?

The latter would be easier - just create a temporary workarea, populate it from the first edition, do your DB deployment, remove the temporary workarea and repeat with the next oldest edition (this can certainly be scripted).

If you need every version of every file - you can probably script that too - but it becomes a bit trickier as you have to know whether you need to deal with files that used to exist but no longer do so as "active" files (i.e. submitted deletions).

On a file-by-file basis - you could probably parse the output of iwrlog for each file and then just process each version encountered via the path provided for it.

can u pls put lite on this.is this possible solution? If yes, can u pls send me sample wrapper script or can u give some more about wrapper scripts. Thnx in advance.

Could you please try to extend some effort is solving your own issues?
