Link References

I have a situation where we are maintaining our links to pieces of content via the DCR name for the piece of content. So, a user would select the link functionality within the VFE and then browse the TS Gui to select a DCR of the target content. If I change the name of the target DCR, it is my assumption that that all references to the DCR would then be broken... This would mean my user would have to know and change all possible references to any file that may be a target of another link within my site when I change the name. Is there anyway to automatically change these references across the site... Any built in functionality that I may be missing, or any additional product that may provide this functionality?

I doubt that there is any built in function that would do what you are looking for.

How about writing a custom menu item that will rename the DCR, and then take the name, search thru all the other existing DCR that references the name you are changing and then replacing it. However, do remember that this can be a very expensive operation in terms of resources.

Though the custom menu item will not solve your issue if you change the file/dcr name directly from the iw-mount (say the Y: drive or the iwmnt).

There might be other workarounds, but I can not think of any other right now.

Thanks for the info - I half expected that answer... A while back there was some talk of integrating the watchfire product with interwoven... My understanding there, was that this product woul look for broken links... an thoughts?

Now that you mention watchfire, I remember that yes TS does integrate with Watchfire and other link checker product. You need to check with support to see which link checker are officially supported by IWOV support.

Though the custom script I had mentioned earlier is similar to what the link checher will do.
