Query on dummy task

I am raising this query thinking that it your suggestion will guide me in right direction Smiley Happy

I have a WF scenario in which author adds the files and mentions the time at which the deployment has to take place. Once this is over, the next task is approval stage wherein the approver has to approve the task before the specified time.

The approver may/maynot approve the task before the scheduled time. So what business has suggested is to go for a notification mail to approver(if at all approver has not approved yet), prior to one hour before the deployment.

Now the issue is after this notification mail, if the approver is not taking action against the WF within a hour, the whole job has to be closed.

Could you please help me on how to achieve on this.

I think the requirements / design needs to be thrashed out a bit more - but depending on when you prompt for the deployment time (job instantiation or task within job) you will need to adjust the timeout value on the review task to one hour before the date / time specified - and have the timeout of the review task go to an externaltask that checks (somehow) the current time against the desired deployment time to see if it's being called 1-hour before desired time, or after desired time has passed. In the first case, it needs to re-set the timeout to the desired time (or just after) and send email to the reviewer(s) and then transition back to the review task. In the second case it probably should send email indicating that the job is being "closed" (not sure this is really the right solution, but ...) and then transition to the endtask.

As with any workflow - you need to make sure you understand the requirements, and the process flow and then design the solution to match - what I've proposed above might satisfy your requirements - but that's not my decision to make - and you still have to implement it.
