author initiate workflow

can somebody please tell me if it is possible to have an author initiating a workflow?

i'm using ts 5.5.2 on a win2k server.

The only officially supported mechanisms for Authors to initiate a workflow are:
1) via Submit (available_templates.cfg action="submit")
2) via closing an Edit DCR session (available_templates.cfg action="tt_data")

Others have proposed mechanisms that might circumvent this restriction, but the above is all that [I believe] are actually officially supported.
