How do we deploy the assets referenced in the DCR

Hi,

I have a requirement, when a DCR is chosen for deployment, i need to deploy the DCR and all the assets which are referenced in the DCR to a pre-defined filesystem.

One of the ways i can do this is, i write a perl script which would parse the DCR and get all the referenced assets and create a filelist and then deploy the file list.

Is there any other way, how we can deploy the assets referenced in the DCR?

Nope, you hit it.

I assume you mean if I have a DCR with 3 images and 2 PDFs, then the WF grabs those files as well.

Do yourself a favor and make the tags standard, all of my DCRs use tags called Image so I can regex the DCR and get all the images and attach them.

Your workflow should have a generateHTML step, that should also parse and grab images at the same time.

By Assets i mean , any images or PDF's which are referenced in the DCR (like Nipper mentioned)

Great thanks Nipper, I have basically created a perl script which would parse the DCR and create a filelist with all the assets referenced in the DCR and then iam using the filelist to deploy to the production.

I would do it before the submit and attach it to the workflow as opposed to just deploying it. This means that the image is versioned as well if it changes.

For managing of assets we are using MediaBin and hence i need not version the assets . I would be only deploying the derivatives of the the master image to the webserver

Are you using the ECM connector ? IIRC, that has some ability to tie to Workflows.

Yes i am using ECM connector and the new workflow modeler 1.0.0.1.
Can you please let me know how can i go about using the ECM connector to tie assets to workflow?

I have done it with WFT but never with WFM, so I expect they would be very different.

Using WFT's you will have to invoke a perl script on deploy task. The PErl Script willl parse the DCR and add then add them to the file list.

There are also some mediabin PMs that will help. Pulling the correct size image from MB to TS to help deploy. It is pretty easy.

A simple solution is to have an external task, in the WF, which iterates over the files attached to the task. For each DCR it would execute a special TPL that would calculate the name of the asset to attach. Each asset would then be added to the workflow.

If you are using mediabin then you could also extract the image at the same time.

Then all you need is an external task at the end to execute a file list deployment, based on the files attached to the task.

you can invoke workflow from mediabin by integrating MB with TS thru ECM connector.More over ,you have to create a menu item as same as adding a custom menu in TS and by clicking the the menu item say for example Invoke workflow,whuch will invoke the workflow of TS by passing the workflow URL, and login credentials as parameters to TS.

Also you have to configure some asps provided by MB...

I've done a similar thing for a customer using wfm.
I made a external task to get all assets,then I was retreiving them using a pre-defined mediabin task that was putting the right transformation (size,RGB...etc). I made a few different task depending the type of the asset.Then building a filelist to deplpoy the assets.
