DCR Values

I want to set the value of an in a dcr with the value of three other combined values that the user selects within the same form.
This value will be a date year-month-day and its value will be set onitemchanged of the three select boxes that are year, month, day.
Any idea if this can be done, I was reading on formAPI but not much information about it.

Post did not display correctly: this is a correction:

I want to pass the value of three select items in a dcr year, month, day to one single text item within the same form. these three values combined will be the value of the text item. if the value of the select boxes change the value of the text item changes.
Anyone has an idea if this can be acheived.

trigger onChange or on save depending on your requirement.. what is the issue you are facing in accomplishing what you want to do?

Go through the FORM API Guide. Use the onChange event to trigger on change for all the three select items. Fetch the values from all the three select items and concatenate and populate the textbox

You should consider using a calendar callout - with a single field for storing the date information. Three select fields is generally a bad choice - both for users (UI) and for developers. Granted, it will require modification to any pre-existing DCRs, but over the medium-to-long term you'll generally be happier with it.
