Accessing form elements outside of the Form API

Hi,

I want to access a textarea via javascript outside of TeamSite's form API. I have a DCT with a snippet like so:




My Text Area
<br />


Is there a way to access the rendered textarea with a simple document.getElementById? I have tried deferring my script until after the page is loaded via the DOMContentLoaded event, but I have had no joy. Any ideas?
