Replicate Container

Hi

I am using TS 6.5 SP2 environment for Teamsite.

I am having a scenero in which I need to replicate a container in DCR at runtime. More expalnation follows

I am having a fetch button on my DCR which will select a XML file as a input.
Now depending in the tags in th XML I have to add the replicants to the DCR and that too populating the values form the XML tags.

IS this thing possible?

Are you having the button inside your dcr? if yes, then I do not think this is possible in edit mode of the dcr. However, you can do this while loading the dcr.

Well, in that case you can achieve the desired functionality on load of the dcr, if that can be termed as runtime in your case, then there will be no button in the dcr.
Explain a bit more on the xml file used and the operation allowed on that as well.
Why do you need such a functionality, as the user can manually change the number of containers later after its populated in the dcr alongwith the values, though you can make the items readonly.

Please explain more on your requirement and limitations as well.

If I implement the functionality OnLoad event then it will be loaded everytime I open the DCR whereas my requirement is that User has a choice to fetch the data from the input XML.

A bit more insight on the problem:
There will be a Input XML provided by the user which contains some valuable data which needs to be populated in the DCR first time with a option with the user to edit it.
Now if I do the implementation on load then if the user makes some changes the preloaded content then next time when it is loaded again then the older content will be populated, so I need to implement it on a fetch button.
I am able to add data in preadded containers but am not able add containers dynamically according to the data available in the XML

I hope I made my requirements clear. Let me know incase you need some more information.

Is your inputXml a dynamic file, i.e. is it going to change everytime before the dcr is edited, and does this whole process is done through a workflow? If yes, then you can use an external task before this usertask to update the dcr with the values pre-populated from the xml file.

Ni it is not the scenerio that everytime we open the DCR the xml will change.
It may or may not be the case.

Okay - you have a button on the DCR that invokes a [cgi-]callout script which prompts for and/or retrieves the contents of a specified XML file - right?

The XML which is retrieved may contain directives that are to be incorporated into the original DCR - right?

The directives to be incorporated - they conform to the DCT of the original DCR? - I.e. if you are to add another instance of a container - then the container is already defined as being a replicant container - right?

As long as you're not trying to dynamically change the structure of the DCT/DCR from the callout - you should be fine. The callout should be able to access the FormAPI layer of the DCT form (RTFM FormAPI manual regarding getScriptFrame) and add the instances of the replicant with the values you want - but it will take some coding - there's no function to say "slurp in this XML code and evaluate it as if it were entered manually during this edit session".

The point where I am stuck is when I have more containers to be added dynamically on runtime. I am not able to add a container on runtime.
Please suggest how to achive this?

Read the information about addInstance in the FormAPI manual - that, and perhaps a few other sections within that manual (and some trial-and-error) should get you there.
