MetaTagger and PDF metadata? help needed

Hello - i am new to metatagger - can metatagger automatically insert metadata into a PDF? Or does TeamSite do this via workflow? i did a search on the forums and didnt find anything sufficient.

the documentation states "This record is initially blank unless the source
document includes native metadata (that is, built-in metadata such as author and title from a PDF document), in which case the metadata record is populated with the native information." but can it work the other way?

MetaTagger only provides metadata, storage and retrieval is left to metadata consumers like TeamSite/Worksite/App_one

You mean, you put in EAs(Author/Description...) in ContentCenter and it updates the underlying asset(a pdf, an MS word doc ...), can be done through workflow with callouts to external programs which know how to manipulate such assets(pdf, doc...).

good feedback - thank you - what is the external program that the Iwov workflow would call to populate the PDF file metadata? is there any documention/examples on such implementations? thanks in advance!

I don't think IWOV provides such utilities, the only thing close to a pdf renderer is a PDF rendering server, where you can send text,MS doc... and the server returns the contents in a PDF format, but this server is integrated with Worksite and not TeamSite. There must be vendors out there who provide software which can update a PDF file non-interactively, using CLTs which can be invoked via TS workflows.

do you know any specific applications that play nicely with metatagger to populate the pdf metadata from TeamSite? we dont have worksite and i couldnt find any such tools on google

I don't have info about any such tools either. But the tool if it exists or created should sit close to TeamSite rather than MT for the sake of simplicity of integration.

I haven't used it, but the iText Java library looks like it can modify PDF metadata (both built-in and user-defined). There might be some for Perl as well. XMP tools may also provide this ability, but the metadata would be embedded XMP, not native PDF.
