OD Error

TS 6.5 SP2 on Win. I am doing a simple deployement, i get deployment completion with out any errors. But i do not see the file getting deployed, and in the log file too where it counts # of files deployed its 0. My scenario is something like under templatedata i have a folder called "myfolder" and i am trying to get everything under this deployed to target area "E:\myfolder_Staging".

I am doing a File based deployment where my filelist.txt read "hr\files\myfile.html" my target file system in config file is targetFilesystem area="E:\myfolder_staging"

On my target machine my allower directories are E:\myfolder_staging.

I do not know where i am goign wrong, it is a very simple OD deployment.

Can anyone point my mistakes.

Not without looking at your logs and deployment.

I might as well mention it (but I know you know this) you need the TS rev in deploy.cfg.

There's at least one thing that bother me about the log file in association to the command line you showed - I see no parameters listed within the log data even though they (

area, file

) seem to be getting passed correctly on the command line.

In the config, I'm not too crazy about their being both a

useReplicationFarm

attribute for the

target

element and a

replicationFarmLink

element - (if you have the latter, you don't need, shouldn't have the former) - however as the config file appears to have been generated through the OD Admin GUI, I guess that shouldn't be an issue...

What makes it weirder though is the

replicationFarmLink

is one of the element of the new DTD - yet the config file specifies

sourceFilesystem

instead of

fileSystem

and

filelist

as sub-elements of the

source

element.

Try re-writing your config to look like this:

I made the changes as suggested, but still the same thing happens
command runs fine but the file is not in the target server. I am still working with this, ill keep you all updated.

Try a couple things, 1st in the <fileSystem> tag, change to <fileSystem name=""> I think that is required (even though it is blank)

Also, my gut feeling is that some of your target specs are the issue. You have DataDifferent=Yes (among others) so suspect one of those decides the deployment is not necessary.

Can you change it to something like this:

That change didn't do any good. I am quite confident that something is wrong with the IPL which does the Opendeploy in my workflow. It has something to do with my filelist.txt. I want it to deploy evrything under "myNEC" to go into myNEC_staging" , so my file list has something like this always "\hr\folder\abc.html" if my filepath inside my filelist.txt is something like "\myNEC\hr\folder\abc.html" then the deployment works perfectly alright. But it creates a folder myNEC under myNEC_Staging and deploys everything in that.

What is the full path for the file you are trying to send (/hr/html/Test1.html.)

Where exactly do you want it ?

From what you say (though I am not certain) you *should* be able to add myNEC to the Source area and use what you have

my workarea is /default/main/MYNEC/HR/WORKAREA/HR_WA.

This workarea has 2 folders at top level myNEC and templatedata so the setup is simple anyone create a DCR and says finish, html is created under myNEC and attached to the workflow along with DCR. The path for both of them are as follows.

/templatedata/hr/html/Test1
/myNEC/hr/html/Test1.html.

These two get deployed in target location E:\myNEC_staging as....

E:\myNEC_staging\templatedata\hr\html\Test1 and
E:\myNEC_staging\myNEC\hr\html\Test1.html

The thing i want is the html files should be deployed right under myNEC_staging so the path to Test1.html should be

E:\myNEC_staging\hr\html\Test1.html.

Since i am doing a file based deployment i expect to have

\hr\html\Test1.html

in my filelist.txt.

Though everything is right and my logic is right, i do not see the deployment to happen the way i wanted. Hope this is clear.

I *think* you will need to define 2 deployments. The first will deploy from $WORKAREA/my_NEC to NEC_staging and the second will deploy from $WORKAREA. You will then need to split the filelist into 2

I have already done this. Did you mean 2 config files when you said define two deployment? I already have two config file one for Prod and Stage. I am manipulating the filelist.txt to scrape out the attached "mNEC" i guess that should take care of it. But donno as what is stopping it.

You can do this with 2 XML files, it is easier. But doing a single XML with 2 different definitions is not too difficult. At the very end, the execDeploymentTask useDefinition="$inputParameter^"and you set inputParameter to be the definition name (-k inputParameter=Template) would run the Template definition.

/templatedata/hr/html indicates a category named hr and a data-type named html - Test1 does not belong at this level if the paths you showed are correct - Test1 represents a DCR which would be stored in /templatedata/hr/html/data/Test1 or perhaps /templatedata/hr/html/data/hr/html/Test1

Can you verify that myNEC_staging has nothing to do with an actual TeamSite staging area - and that it is just a term that you are using for your process?

The same comment about the path that I indicated before applies to the above too - please make sure that you provide real path information for us to help you with.

If the directory structure beneath E:/myNEC_staging is 100% identical to the directory structure within /default/main/MYNEC/HR/WORKAREA/HR_WA - then this should be a simple single-definition deployment config and you shouldn't be having any problems.

If the directory structure differs in some way between the source and target areas - you need to provide us the details of those differences in order for us to help you.

It could be dual-definition approach as Nipper suggests, but that's only one of several possible scenarios which can't be narrowed down without more accurate detailed information from you.

If that's the case - it should be simple:
source area = "/default/main/MYNEC/HR/WORKAREA/HR_WA" (or STAGING?)
path name = "."
target area = "e:/myNEC_staging"

File list entries should all begin with "./templatedata/..." and/or "./myNEC/..."

"e:/myNEC_staging" must be an allowed directory for the receiver - If this is a mapped drive and not a local disk partition on the receiver you may have to check the release notes and such for the version of OD that you are using and newer versions - as there were issues with some versions of OD trying to deploy to mapped network drives.

You may also need to play around with the path-separators for both the deployment config and server config file - I seem to recall that in some versions of OD - despite the fact that '

' will work on both Windows and Unix - that OD didn't correctly grok '

' in some places and required '

' (you may have to try '

' too - but I don't believe that's necessary)

Whoops - sorry - I misread one of your earlier posts - where you said what you were getting as opposed to what you wanted - sorry about that - it does complicate things. Is there any way you can get rid of the myNEC directory in your workarea?

If not - then we're back to having two file lists and two sets of definitions and execDeploymentTasks:

thank You Adam, The problem here doesn't lie with filelist. It lies in the areapath. Areapath should be varying while deploying the DCR and an html file.

For anything under template data my areapath should be..

/default/main/MYNEC/HR/WORKAREA/HR_WA

For html's my areapath should be..

/default/main/MYNEC/HR/WORKAREA/HR_WA/myNEC.

How can i have variable areapaths assgined to $area depending on the type( DCR or html). Please advice.
