Restricting access to parts of a document

I have a request from our ContentCenter users to restrict portions of an html file to different users. An example might be to only allow one set of users to affect the images on an html file while other users might be able to edit only a portion of the content while yet a third group of users might only be able to edit the remaining portion of the file.

Any suggestions on how to fulfill this request?

I suppose for the image a separate workarea could be created to restrict replacing of specifically named images used by the html document.

Ideas on how to split access to a single html document are not coming to me.

Two choices, 1 is to convert the HTML to templates. You can do this already with templates. Another option is to use server side includes and have different access for the included files.

I've worked with templates but never to restrict access to portions of one html file.

So I would have "n" number of templates depending on how many areas of the html file need to have access controlled. And each template would then be able to generate the html using the data entered into its associated templates. Sounds like some iwperl involved in this solution.

Can anyone point me to or provide me with an example?

No - you would have a template for the page in which certain fields on the template would be "allowed" for certain users, groups, or roles - and then you would use a PT to generate the HTML as a result of the changes that were made to the DCR as per the DCT.

While you could use iwperl here - I'm not sure it's needed for what you are asking about.

There are multiple ways to do this. You can use a single template and restrict access to certain fields to certain users. Or you can use multiple templates and have the TPL use load_dcr to read in the various templates when building.
