Issue with sending mail to group from workflow

Hi,
I am using workflow modeler 1.0.0.1 with teamsite 6.7.1 SP1 on Solaris enviournment.
My requirement is to send email to a group from the workflow.The worklfow modeler email task does not send email to a group,so now i am using external task with "iw_solution_email.ipl" script to send the email.
I am using default tpl files given by Interwoven as my task variable.

i.e.-
iw_mailheader_pt = reviewer_iwmailheader.tpl
iw_mailbody_pt = reviewer_iwmailbody.tpl

but instead of sending the mail to group it's sending the mail to root user.

Could anybody please tell me what other changes i have to make to send the mail to a group?

When i changed the tag in the ccmail_header.tpl and enter a group name ( ),it's started working properly and the mail got delivered to all the users in the group.

I am unable to figure out the issue with the default tpl files comming with the teamsite.

So my question is do i have to hardcode the group name in the tpl file?

As i have to mail with different subject and to different groups depending on the task.If i have to hard code the group name then do i have to write different tpl file for different scenarios or within the same tpl file i can use group name and subject as variable and change their values depending on different cases?

Please advice me.

I feel that email task does not send mail to a group because when i am giving group as the owner of the email task,it's not sending the mail but when i change the owner to a user, it sends the mail successfully.

A 'group' cannot be the 'owner' of a task in a workflow - if you try that, the workflow engine should throw an error - if it doesn't, that sounds like a bug. A 'group' can 'share' potential ownership of a grouptask - which is different.

I don't see how you can make a group an owner of a task in a workflow - what type of task is it (usertask, externaltask, etc.)? How are you setting the owner of the task to be a group?

If you search the forums you should be able to find a number of threads regarding sending email to groups of users - I suggest you start there

You say you can set the group name in the tpl and it works fine? Could you not imbed some code in a tpl which reads a configuration file and gets a certain group based on what task it is.

For example if you went by task name, have the code find out the task name (say "taskNameA") then store a config file which says something like

taskName-------Group
taskNameA------Accounting
taskNameB------Marketing
etc.

So based on the task name, you get a group name, plug that into the tpl as the recipient.

So i my external task i am using iw_solution_email.ipl script to send the mail to the group which shares next group task. We are passing name of next task as falag to iw_solution_email.ipl script , which will find the all the users of dat group and send mail to all of them.

But it's not working for me.

As per debugging technique, could you please confirm if you are able to capture the passed task name within your iw_solution_mail.ipl file?

If yes, what exactly you are performing with the name? If possible attach the code snippet.

Okay - so the statement about making a group the owner of a task was misleading.

The issue here is what the PT you associated with the headers for the email in your call to iw_solution_email.ipl does with the task information. I believe at least one of the OOTB mail header PTs determines if the targeted task is a grouptask and if it has no owner parses through the sharedby element to retrieve a list of users - each of which can then be looked up in the .../solutions/email_map.cfg (alternatively, Nipper posted some code that could be used to lookup the email from the tsusers.xml file for those using 6.7.1+)

So - you need to identify the PT being used for the headers, turn on debugging in the iw_solution_email.ipl script and look at the results.
