Convert HTML into a DCR?

I'm trying to take a collection of HTML files and convert them into DCRs automatically (without having to manually enter each one). Is it possible to do this using a PT? I've heard the phrase "cross translation" mentioned, but I can't find anything in the documentation or on the forum about it.

My level of understranding is HTML files are generated from DCRs. In the normal case DCR is going to be the source point. I couldn't understand your business scenario and the requirement you are having at present..
Please shed light on this

Is it *possible* - yes. Is it easy ? nope. Is it worth the effort ? Often no.

My answer normally is, use cut and paste. Often I do this in parallel, let some temps fill out an excel spreadsheet and then have a script to move the spreadsheet to DCRs.

If that is not sufficient then there is a company called Nahava that does this. That will work if you have several hundred pages all the same format and you can convert them to the same type of DCR.

If you are really serious about trying to convert then you need someone in who knows what they are doing. You need to look at the data that you have in place, how it got created, how consistent it is, and see if you can parse it. Once it is parsed, then putting it into DCRs is trivial.

Lemme guess you landed in a Project where the company used some technology other than TeamSite and created all those html pages , and now they want to switch to TeamSite and its your duty to make it happen. As a Business user/ Project Manager you might already know how you Interwoven promised to make the change happen. If they have suggested some options, we too want to know what they have said. On the contrary, it they said "You go figure" then Andy's procedure is best. Every one knows that its not an easy job.

To be very very precise and short, the procudre is a follows.

1. Break html into different fields and associate a Name to those fields.
2. Append xml tags to those fields (make sure your Universal DCT conprise exactly the same tags and structure as you have defined in the xml)
3. Load all created xml's into one directory.
4. All you need now is a very basic perl script which associates extended attributes according to your data-type definition and imports them into the data directory of that corresponding data-type.

Bingo your job is done.

The HTML source is help files created in RoboHelp. And yes, the direction I've been given is to take those HTML help files and make them into DCRs so we can use TS to manage the content and either generate XML or other HTML files from that content.

beware of special case,you could face a few special cases...an html file can be really different from another one even if they were generated by the same system.Should HTML be cleaned for some values,should some values be cut?

how many pages are talking about?maybe a cut and paste is a solution.

I would personnaly use a perl script with regexes and xml::dom for to transform/encode the values into a dcr.
