Simple OnItemChange

TS 6.5 sp2. I just want to make sure that my onItemChnage on a field will work always. I have this set on a field in way that when the field changes an other field is set ( simple example is setting state when city is selected).

My problem here is that this function is not being triggered for an already existing DCR. No matter i change the field and tab out of it. Nothing changes.
and its annoying me.

Can you please tell me what is wrong here?

cannot tell you without seeing any code, but check you init function and make certain that you are registering the event. You might have something like this


 var dcrName = IWDCRInfo.getDCRName();

If you uncomment the alert in the init function, do you get anything ?

Typically you register the init function instead of just running it:


IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init);

well i have added the handler, when i am editing a DCR the handler is triggered and the alert function in init occurs. But when i change the field and tab out of it the on change function is never triggered.

It only triggeres on a new form entry DCT.

OK, so you changed the init I suggested and also uncommented the alert that says you are in the loop. When you create a new DCR you see the alert Hello World when you change the Location field. When you edit an existing DCR, you see the you are in the loop alert but DO NOT see Hello World when you change location field.

Is that all correct ?

Post your DCT as well and I will try it. There is no reason that this does not work, that I can see. You may want to trim out all the excess (basically leave enough JS and DCT to show the problem)

The onItemChange event handler will only fire when the item is changed - for an existing DCR you also need to run the function directly from the init function, passing it the IWItem of what you want to have checked. - e.g.:

Thank You guys i got this working. One thing i wanted to add in my ipl was to distinguish between New form entry and DCR edit. Since in both the cases i would get my "location" ( DCR name) value to my ipl, here i would check the extended attribute "TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type" of the DCR from staging, it it matches my query i.e. "main/pressrelease" i would return array back to the javascript else leave it blank.

For some reason it is not working for me. Is there any other easy way to distinguish a new DCT against a DCR??
