MediaBin 4.6 vs Firefox and Java 6

The firefox users who have recently upgraded the Java platform to version 6, update 3 are now unable to download assets from MediaBin. The log trace shows that the job is successful but in fact, the file is not on the user's desktop.

We had reproduced the issue by upgrading Java.

Is there something to do regrding this issue?

1. Are you using any tasks while downloading?

2. After download is completed ,what is the message shown in the download msg window.?

3. Is it specific to all types / different sizes of files?

Firefox 2.0.0.7 with Java 6 update 2 works perfectly.

An upgrade to Java 6 update 3 puts all downloads in error, no matter the type of file or their size.

We are using the applet for downloading, other tasks running.

The message : 1 asset(s) failed

I try to rollback to version 6 update 2 and everything is working fine with this one.

I just tried it with both IE and FireFox and it worked fine. I downloaded the latest just now from www.java.com (ver 6, update 3). The exact version string of the java runtime is: version 1.6.0_03-b5. I did not include GOOGLE toolbar for IE when I downloaded. I am running the browser from Vista, Business version 6.0.6000. My FireFox version string is: 2.0.0.7. My test was to download a single file to the desktop using the NONE task.

If you still have the error, try opening the java console. The applet writes to the console. You can also turn on some extra debug logging that is built into the applet. Locate the MediaBin web application file js\filetransfer.js. Look for any lines resembling this one (there may be more than one):
param value="no" name="Debug"

Change value from no to yes. Restart your browser. Because FireFox sometimes doesn't update javascript files when they are out of date, manually clear out your browser cache. (IE works fine) Open the java console. See if any errors are written to the console window.

We are running on Windows XP SP2 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. The problem occurs on Firefox 2.0.0.7 and 2.0.0.4, using java 6 update 3. The issue is automatically resolved when java is downgraded to Java 6 update 2.

Until the bug is fixed, there is no solution but to restrict users from downloading Java 6, update 3.
