Hi,

Could any one tell about an estimate as how much bytes an edition can consume of physical space? The total number of files in the particular branch is around 30K within 35 folders.

That is impossible to guess, since it all depends on the previous edition. You could likely write a script to calculate the differences between 2 editions and have an accurate figure.

From one theoretical view point - basically you do an iwcmp between the two editions, and for each file that's different in the new edition you determine the size in bytes of that file, and sum them up.

From another theoretical view point - editions are comprised of pointers to versions of files in the backing store and therefore take up very little space on their own, it's the actual files they point to which take up space - so any file that is shared between multiple editions, an edition and the staging area, and/or an edition and a workarea - is not really taking up space in the edition. If the file is referenced only by a single edition and not by staging or a workarea - you can refer back to the first theoretical view point. ;-)
